ONS: Green shipping at a turning point - what will it take to reach net zero?

The maritime industry is entering a decisive decade. New regulations are taking shape, investments are accelerating, and industry leaders are beginning to demonstrate that low-carbon shipping can move from ambition to reality.

Opening the Green Shipping programme at ONS 2026, this session brings together policymakers and industry leaders to explore where the maritime transition stands today, what progress has been made, and what challenges remain.

The discussion will begin with a keynote from Norway's Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Marianne Sivertsen Næss, setting the policy and strategic context for maritime decarbonisation. This will be followed by perspectives from across the maritime value chain, covering policy, industry, technology and market development.

Together, the speakers will discuss what it will take to scale solutions, mobilise investment, and create the conditions needed for net-zero shipping.

The session serves as an introduction to The Green Shipping Conference at ONS 2026, where stakeholders from across the sector will explore the technologies, business models and partnerships shaping the future of sustainable maritime transport.
