Merry Christmas and a Green New Year!

A Christmas greeting from the Maritime CleanTech team and our CEO, Ada Martine Jakobsen.

Dear Partners and Friends,As the year draws to a close, I reflect on what has been an extraordinary 2024 for our valued network of partners. Despite geopolitical and economic challenges facing the industry, we have made significant strides for the green maritime transition.

Pioneering Breakthroughs in Clean Technologies

In 2024, we celebrated significant technological achievements. To mention just a few:

Ammonia: Launching the EU Apollo project with Eidesvik’s Viking Energy's retrofit for ammonia power, Amogy’s cracker solution on the Hudson River tugboat, and showcasing Höegh Autoliners’ ammonia-ready fleet.

Electrification: Testing of the VARD’s Ocean Charger at the Zephyros Offshore Wind Test site of Sustainable Energy Catapult Centre, and the innovation towards battery swap solutions for fast ferries marks critical advances in electric vessel operations.

Hydrogen: New hydrogen vessels on the rivers of Europe through our EU FLAGSHIPS project, and Norled’s MF Hydra’s operation paving the way for hydrogen solutions reaching international markets. These advancements reflect the growing maturity of clean maritime solutions—progress only made possible through collaboration across our ecosystem.

Strengthening Europe’s Green Future

This year, our community reinforced its position as a key hub for maritime decarbonization. We contributed to the development of new EU programs and strengthened strategic roles in the Waterborne Technology Platform. Recognition at EU Hydrogen Week, with the prestigious OUTREACH award, highlights the power of our collaborative approach.

We forged strategic international alliances, such as the Green Deal collaboration with Pole Mer in France, partnerships with Team Norway to open new markets in Singapore, Hong Kong, North America, Brazil and Southern Europe. These initiatives demonstrate our ability to connect Norwegian expertise with global opportunities, providing our partners with platforms to thrive in competitive markets.

Ready for Challenges Ahead

Our Administration has further strengthened its expertise in market development, policy, and project management. This positions us to accelerate the adoption of green technologies and support Norway’s ambitions to lead the global green transition.

Looking to 2025, our focus remains steadfast: validating cutting-edge technologies, enabling market adoption, and shaping policies that drive meaningful change. As the climate crisis demands urgent action, our collective efforts will ensure the maritime industry becomes a beacon of sustainable innovation.

A Heartfelt Thank You

On behalf of the entire Maritime CleanTech administration, I extend my deepest gratitude for your commitment, innovation, and collaboration. Together, we prove the power of partnerships in driving transformation. As we approach a new year filled with opportunities, I am confident in our ability to achieve an even greater impact.Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a prosperous 2025!

Warm regards,Ada Martine Jakobsen
