Höegh Autoliners joins Maritime CleanTech to accelerate the move to zero

CEO in Maritime CleanTech, Ada Jakobsen, and CEO in Höegh Autoliners, Andreas Enger.The ambitious shipowner wants their new Ro-Ro vessels to become emission-free as soon as possible. The first of eight newbuilds will hit the waters next year.Höegh Autoliners is on a mission to accelerate the decarbonization of global supply chains, adapting their current and future fleet to a green and more sustainable future.“The Aurora Class will be a first mover in the deep-sea segment. The vessels will be able to operate emission-free on green ammonia. At the end of 2024, the first of these eight newbuilds will be delivered,” says CEO of Höegh Autoliners, Andreas Enger.The Aurora newbuilds will be the biggest and most environmentally friendly car carriers ever built.“We aim to pave the way for sustainable shipping technology in the deep-sea segment. After the first two vessel are put in operation, two more Aurora Class vessels will come every six months until 2026”, Enger adds.

In total, Höegh Autoliners will get 8 new Aurora class vessels.Ambitious climate strategyWith a target of reaching net zero by 2040, the shipowner recently joined Maritime CleanTech.“Together with Maritime CleanTech, we hope to pick up the pace on our path to reaching zero. With a broad range of ammonia-related innovations taking place in the cluster, mutual interaction across the projects is essential. We are happy for the chance to contribute and leverage the shared knowledge and experience,” Enger says.CEO of Maritime CleanTech, Ada Jakobsen, is impressed by Höegh Autoliners and look forward to deepening the collaboration further.“We need the frontrunners aiming for scaling the greener technologies for oceangoing vessels. I am delighted that Höegh Autoliners partners up with Maritime CleanTech and can´t wait to explore the possibilities with them and the rest of our partners. We need to demonstrate new onboard technologies, as well as establishing the production and distribution of green ammonia. That a global shipowner has chosen green ammonia as their future fuel is essential for the business cases in creating the new value chains,” Jakobsen adds.
