London calling: Maritime CleanTech to share insights from IMO’s net-zero vote

The IMO’s upcoming decision on the Net-Zero Framework could significantly reshape global shipping. Maritime CleanTech will be in London from 14–17 October, joining the Norwegian delegation at the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting.

We will follow the negotiations closely and keep our partners updated on the latest developments and their potential impact on the maritime industry.

Reber Iversen Policy and Project Manager at Maritime CleanTech

“This is a defining moment for shipping. We strongly hope that IMO member states will adopt the Net-Zero Framework. Clear global targets are essential for speeding up the green transition,” says Maritime CleanTech’s Policy and Project Manager, Reber Iversen.

Substantial Market Potential

If adopted, the framework will set binding goals for greenhouse gas reductions and provide much-needed predictability for shipowners, suppliers, and investors. For our partner network, this represents both a climate imperative and a significant business opportunity.“

“Competitiveness and sustainability now go hand in hand. A Net-Zero Framework provides a level playing field, allowing first movers to reap the benefits of investing in zero-emission solutions. And it provides an important backbone to turn decarbonisation into a driver of growth for the maritime industry, supporting the European Clean Deal,” says Tore Boge, Head of EU Projects at Maritime CleanTech.

Momentum for Action

Maritime CleanTech has long championed policies that accelerate the adoption of new technologies, enable the development of market-ready green fuels, and expand the necessary infrastructure for reducing emissions from shipping.

“The MEPC decision goes to the heart of our mission: validating and scaling technologies, enabling market adoption, and shaping strong policies for the maritime industry. We are very pleased that the Norwegian IMO delegation supports the adoption of the Net-Zero Framework, fully in line with our shared ambitions for a faster green transition,” Iversen adds.

Together with the Carbon Trust, Maritime CleanTech will host an event on Tuesday 14 October, where industry partners will discuss the developments from the first day of negotiations. Partners who are in London that week are welcome to contact us for details and invitations.
