Amogy, a key partner of Maritime CleanTech, has successfully tested the world’s first ammonia-powered, carbon-free maritime vessel. The vessel, called the NH3 Kraken, is a retrofitted tugboat from 1957 and recently completed its first voyage on the Hudson River. This is a huge step toward reducing emissions in the global shipping industry.

As the shipping industry faces pressure to meet the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, this breakthrough brings ammonia closer to large-scale, commercial use in powering vessels.
