Norwegian maritime cluster NCE Maritime CleanTech is a global leader in developing energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. At this year’s Nor-Shipping the cluster will present concepts and solutions that have the potential to transform sea transportation.
Norway has the world’s most innovative maritime industry with forward-leaning ship owners and R&D institutions, and a government that actively facilitates innovation through policies and incentives. Cluster organization NCE Maritime CleanTech uses the Norwegian maritime expertise as a springboard for the development of new energy-efficient and environmental friendly technologies. The cluster won the prize as Norway´s leading innovation environment in 2016
Per May 2017 the cluster has 68 company members covering the entire maritime value chain, from ship design to ship yards, equipment suppliers, ship owners, classification companies and R&D institutions. Through a unique collaborative approach, where there is a cross fertilization of ideas and opportunities, they arrive at solutions that impact upon every link in the maritime value chain, from subsea, to marine and throughout the energy sector.
“Cluster collaboration is decisive for green innovation. We represent companies that have developed the world’s first zero-emission car ferry, the first hybrid-OSV, and a new solution for inductive charging. And that’s just mentioning a few of our collective achievements”, says NCE Maritime CleanTech CEO Hege Økland.
Among the concepts developed by the cluster members are the Urban Water Shuttle, a zero emission fast going passenger vessel, and Short Sea Pioneer; a revolutionary two-vessel solution for transportation of good at sea.
The vessel concepts will be presented at this year’s Nor-Shipping in hall A, which is purely dedicated to the concept “Disruptive Sustainability” The hall is presented as a unique space that aims to challenge convention and embrace innovation.
“This concept is perfect for our cluster,” says Økland. “We intend to showcase sustainable solutions that disrupt industry norms, pointing the way towards new possibilities for the future maritime sector.”
