In response to inputs from Maritime CleanTech and our partners in the maritime industry, the Norwegian funding agency just announced a shift in their policy.
Previously, Enova's “Hydrogen in vessels” and “Ammonia in vessels” programmes have only funded ships that operate entirely on hydrogen or ammonia.
Under the revised policy, shipowners can get support for retrofitting an existing ship even if it doesn't operate 100 % on hydrogen or ammonia. Say you have four engines on your ship, and you plan to replace two or three of them with hydrogen or ammonia propulsion. Now your project can get funded – if you achieve a minimum of 55 % emissions reductions.
