Following the rapid increase in Seafood production there is a need for new methods for collecting, processing and removing fish sludge. AquaPro and Wärtsilä Ship Design has established a project to develop a processing vessel that will collect waste from fish farms and process it into a commercial product (pellets). The project focuses on the development of a solution where fish sludge is collected in a buffer tank in the fish cages, from which the processing vessel collects the sludge. The project will also evaluate whether the fish farm industry can use the processed waste for energy.

When the process ship is filled up, it transport the waste to a land-based storage. The pellets is then picked up by a bulk vessel for transport to a cement factory. The project realization will turn wate into a resource and it will reduce fish farming companies’ costs linked to fish sludge.
