In January cluster partner Solstad Offshore was awarded ConocoPhillips Norway’s annual ‘Award for Outstanding Environmental Performance’ for the ongoing battery hybrid upgrade projects with Normand Server, Normand Supporter and Normand Fortune. The projects also include shore power connection systems.
It is important for us to utilize new technology that makes our vessels safer and more efficient. Our experienc es with hybrid vessels are very good when it comes to fuel economy, operation and safety – in addition to the reduction in emissions, says COO in Solstad Offshore, Tor Inge Dale
The battery systems for all three vessels are supplied by Westcon Power & Automation. The vessels or will be retrofitted according to the DNV GL Battery Power-notation, which means that the battery solution is classified as a replacement of a diesel generator.
Considerable reductions in emissions and costs
It is estimated that the reductions in CO2 emissions will be in the range of 15% (or 3400 tons total for three vessels per year), and lead to a reduction in operational costs for both Solstad Offshore and ConocoPhillips. In DP operation the reductions in fuel consumption and emission can be up to 30 %.
The award was received by COO Tor Inge Dale on behalf of Solstad’s environmental/battery team. At the seremony ConocoPhillips thanked Solstad for the good cooperation and all work and efforts done on the Solstad team to get these projects materialized.
The installation of battery systems in the three vessels will be completed by the first half of 2019.
