The world’s first ammonia-powered supply vessel soon at sea – another pilot or ready for export?

August 11 at 17:00 17:40

After years of testing and development through the Norwegian Catapult programme, Wärtsilä has successfully converted a combustion engine to run on ammonia. This breakthrough is about to be installed on board a vessel – making the supply ship the first of its kind in the world.

But one ship won’t be enough to meet future climate targets. For ammonia to become a real zero-emission solution in shipping, the full value chain must be in place: infrastructure, regulations, financing, and safety.

So how do we move from prototypes and pilots to fleet renewal and export?
What will it take for more shipowners to invest – and for the supplier industry to scale up?
And how can test facilities, public policy, and risk mitigation play a bigger role?

This event hosted by Sustainable Energy will bring together leading voices at Arendalsuka do discuss the future of ammonia. Maritime CleanTech will be represented by CEO Ada Jakobsen in the panel.
