Cluster partners, with Haugaland Kraft in lead, are collaborating to develop a new, smart and autonomous energy system for the island community Utsira.
Utsira is located in the North Sea, outside Haugesund. Because of its geographic location, the island is facing challenges with the current power supply. Today’s power solutions, will not meet the future demands when it comes to business development and possibly increased settlement. In order to increase the power and transfer capacity, improve readiness, energy-efficiency and increase self-sufficiency on Utsira, the project partners have joint forces and established an innovative R&D project.
The project goal is to adopt new technology within electrification of vessels to balance and support the power line onshore. In addition, the project aims to produce, and store, renewable energy for optimal operations and contingency. Other project partners in the Utsira project, are Wärtsilä Norway, Sunnhordland Kraftlag, Greenstat, Utsira Municipality and Utsira Laks.
