That was the topic when NCE Maritime CleanTech gathered experts for a live webinar.
The IMO 2050 target represent a huge task ahead in replacing fossil fuels. Various zero-carbon alternatives are under consideration for deep-sea shipping, and biofuel is launched as an alternative that requires minor modifications to existing engines, machinery and storage systems. However, there is also a lot of controversy surrounding the use of biofuels in various sectors, mainly related to availability shortage and sustainability of biofuel supply chains.
NCE Maritime CleanTech gathered experts from both the research, the production and the maritime industry side to discuss what role biofuel will have in the future energy mix.

- Judit Sanquist, Research Scientist at SINTEF Energy Research, talked about the different possibilities for use of biofuels.
- Lene Pilskog, Project Manager at Sunnhordland Naturgass, is currently building a biofuel plant in Norway. She told the webinar audience about the production of biofuel.
- Christos Chryssakis, Business Development Manager at DNVGL, went through the pros & cons using biofuel as an alternative to petroeleum-based fuel.
- Peter Edgar Koch, Associate Professor at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, compared biofuel with hydrogen and ammonia.
