Developing and implementing green solutions in collaboration with other maritime pioneers is a winning recipe for system integrators SEAM. With several showcases in operation throughout Norway, the prizewinners are ready to cross borders.
– SEAM is leading the way with transformative green solutions in the electrification and implementing new green energy carriers onboard the fleet. They showcase that collaboration in the complete value chain is key to succeeding with the green transition, and they are eager to share their knowledge to move the industry as a whole forward. This is essential when developing new technologies for an immature market, says Maritime CleanTech CEO Ada Jakobsen.
Considered a beacon of progress, with transformative green solutions and dedication to collaboration, the fast-growing company received the prize at Maritime CleanTech’s annual conference on November 30th.
The developer and integrator of hybrid-, battery- and hydrogen technology have been a valued partner of the Maritime CleanTech community for years and use the Maritime CleanTech arena as a catalyst for innovation projects.
– The award acknowledges SEAM’s substantial contributions to real and implemented projects, emphasizing the importance of showcasing successful technological transitions to the market, says Margun Minne, Executive Director at Sparebanken Vest.
Making new markets
The proof can be found crossing Norwegian waters. SEAM has delivered technology to a long list of green pioneering vessels, including the world’s first ferry to use liquid hydrogen as an energy carrier, MF Hydra. The vessel was built for Norled, designed by LMG Marin, and equipped by SEAM – all partners of Maritime CleanTech.
SEAM has also delivered the power and automation systems for the zero-emissions vessels Future of the Fjords and Ryger Elektra, the solutions for the Oslo-Nesodden ferries and the power dock in Gudvangen.
Next up are the system deliveries for Torghatten Nord’s hydrogen ferries in Vestfjorden, and Amogy’s demonstrator project in New York, which will see an old tugboat run on hydrogen through the cracking of ammonia. The latter also provides a strategically important introduction of SEAM to the North American market.
Eager to push boundaries
SEAM’s CEO Gunvald A. Mortvedt says the company are honored and proud to receive the award and more motivated than ever to continue their work with advancing clean and sustainable technologies in the maritime industry.
– Norway has come a long way in our journey towards zero emissions, and we have many reasons to be proud, but we still have a lot of work to do. We’re at the brink of the 1.5-degree limit and are now standing at the crossroads of our future. The choices and efforts we make today will decide the future for generations to come, Mortvedt says.
– 2024 will be filled with many exciting milestones in developing new, green technologies and solutions. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with our partners to push boundaries and get closer to a zero-emission future.
The Partner of the Year receives a prize award of NOK 100,000 financed by Sparebanken Vest. The prize aims to stimulate green innovation through collaboration as well as to highlight the Maritime CleanTech partners who are good ambassadors for the green maritime transition.
