Maritime CleanTech is launching a new Nordic initiative to build more secure and resilient maritime infrastructure.
Together with partners in Norway, Sweden, and Finland we will map vulnerabilities and develop solutions for three key ports in three countries: Mo i Rana (Norway), Umeå (Sweden), and Vaasa (Finland).
Resilient Maritime Logistics and Ports
The project aims to enhance readiness and robustness in vital transport corridors from the Norwegian Sea to Finland. Backed by Nordic Innovation, the project will begin by identifying physical and digital vulnerabilities in these strategic ports, which are essential for transport, energy security, and industrial activity in the region. The long-term ambition is to pilot and scale new solutions in cybersecurity, low-emission energy implications, and digital infrastructure. The timing is critical, as geopolitical tensions and hybrid threats such as cyberattacks and supply disruptions demand new approaches to maritime security and preparedness.
– This kind of initiative is essential to safeguard our societies going forward, and where maritime infrastructure is key. By combining resilience, green innovation, and digital readiness across borders, we are building a stronger and more robust Nordic region,” says Øystein Huglen, Head of Technology and Innovation at Maritime CleanTech
Advancing green transition
In addition to the three ports, project partners include eRana Utvikling (Norway), INAB (Sweden), and VASEK (Finland). Maritime CleanTech plays a central role as a technology and innovation partner, contributing experience from one of the world’s most advanced ecosystems for green maritime solutions.
– We clearly see that many European ports face similar challenges and are eager to collaborate on robust and greener solutions. Our recent visits to Vaasa and Umeå emphasized this,” says Marte Jensen, Project Manager at Maritime CleanTech.
The project illustrates how cross-border collaboration can generate value for both the maritime industry and society at large. As the first phase gets underway, Maritime CleanTech invites partners across its network to join the dialogue.
