TechUpdate: Methanol as a potential alternative fuel for shipping
29th March 2022 at 10:00–11:30
Event Navigation
Ammonia and hydrogen are gaining favor in the future fuel debate for being potentially carbon-free energy carriers. Still, they face several challenges such as high investment costs and the lack of bunkering infrastructure. Methanol as a maritime fuel is a candidate that solves both these issues.
Methanol is available worldwide, and there is already a global infrastructure in place. The cost for building new and converting existing vessels to methanol is significantly less than other alternative fuel conversions. Green methanol also leads to significantly lowered emissions of GHGs and nitrogen oxides compared to fossil fuels. So why hasn’t the use of methanol taken off yet?
In this webinar, we have invited ships owners, researchers, producers, and technology providers to share their take on methanol. What are the advantages, and what are the disadvantages? How do they see methanol as a part of the future fuel mix?
This webinar is for cluster members in Maritime CleanTech.
