Saman med sju partnarar frå fem land søker NCE Maritime CleanTech om oppstart av EU-prosjekt for å utvikla brenselcellesystem for maritim sektor.
HyTEMA (Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology for Marine Applications) is a multinational project that aims to develop a commercial fuel cell system adapted to marine sector. This can be done by developing a powertrain system for marine applications as basis for the enabling of hydrogen and fuel cell implementation in marine markets.
The project aims to demonstrate the technology by completing a powertrain assembly with an actual vessel under simulated real-world conditions. The consequential impact of the work proposed is innovative and ground-breaking – the construction of a first fuel cell powertrain system optimized for marine applications. This can build capability for a much wider range of potential applications, and has also potential to generate substantial economic opportunities in one of the world’s most competitive manufacturing sectors. The project will contribute with input to the regulatory work ongoing in this sector.
Ninety per cent of world trade is transported by sea and the emissions from maritime transport having increased by 32% between 1990 and 2012. This requires that vessels reduces their emissions substantially towards EU targets for 2030 and 2050. In addition to making it possible to reduce emissions, realization of our project has a market potential that is enormous over time, being accelerated by tightening emissions regulations.
The HyTEMA consortium is composed of 8 partners from 5 countries who jointly have all the necessary background and expertise to achieve the objectives of the project. All partners have a strong expertise in collaborative projects, both national and European.
