Hydrogen and its potential to decarbonize industrial hubs through ports
14th October 2021 at 09:00–10:30
Event Navigation
Maritime CleanTech is participating in the extended programme of the European Sustainability Energy Week.
Regions with industrial hubs linked to ports have the potential to become the nerve centres for the scale-up of green hydrogen, as nearly 80% the hydrogen produced today is used as a feedstock for the refining and chemical industries that are concentrated in coastal industrial zones. Not only are these energy intensive sectors, but they also extensively use fossil-fuel-based hydrogen in their processes. Encouraging these hubs to shift to green hydrogen could decarbonise whole regions and create a European green hydrogen value chain.
This session will bring together policy makers, industry representatives and regional authorities to talk about their experiences and share their visions on how ports can play a key role towards a green hydrogen economy.
